Meet the Mathis Team! They have been Kitchen Tune-Up franchise owners since 2015, and are busing transforming kitchens across Flagstaff, Arizona. You can find them on Facebook at Kitchen Tune-Up Flagstaff, AZ and on their website here. Our Home Office team loves seeing photos from their job sites and the amazing views in this part of the county. Thanks for the interview Andy & Laura Leigh!
What was your career before becoming a Tunie?
Andy was in the financial services industry and Laura Leigh owned a Montessori School.
Any advice for someone thinking about making the leap and buying their own franchise?
Be willing to embrace change. You will change as you grow your business. Your perspective on business will change. Regardless of what changes, continue to work hard and serve your customers instead of just selling to them. Be passionate about what you do. You will have an opportunity to build a business that you can be proud of.
When you’re not working, what is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Hiking, skiing, and traveling
What’s something unique about your area?
We live at the base of the San Francisco Peaks so there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails and the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Area. Flagstaff also has many art and music festivals to enjoy.
Do you have a favorite cabinet door style?
Our favorite is the Tescott door style. It is a favorite of our customers in knotty alder. It’s a wood door in a shaker style, and available in many different wood species and stain options.
What was the biggest motivator to WHY you bought your own franchise?
The biggest motivator was to be able to move to Flagstaff and build a business that would give us an income and the independence that we value. Everyone has a kitchen, so you can open a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise in any city! We moved to Flagstaff from Texas to enjoy the outdoor life that this area offers. Our children are grown and love visiting us.
What have you found to be the biggest benefit to franchise ownership?
Independence and the ability to build a locally owned business. The work is fun and rewarding and we would have never tried this industry without the proven system and training that a franchise offers. Our favorite part of helping homeowners improve their homes is seeing the enjoyment they get from being in their new kitchen. We have had customers cry because it was something they have been wanting to do for so long. We have also had customers tell us that now their kitchen is a peaceful place for them to enjoy cooking or just a cup of coffee.
